The Rape of Lucrece (1594) is a narrative poem by William Shakespeare about the legendary Lucretia. In his previous narrative poem, Venus and Adonis (1593), Shakespeare had included a dedicatory letter to his patron, the Earl of Southampton, in which he promised to write a "graver work". Accordingly, The Rape of Lucrece has a serious tone throughout.

This work is amazing! It can't be more beautifully written, and it is so universal and for our current time! Rape and women's abuse and violence is a very present issue in Argentina, where I live, and this work has been recently performed by a Spanish actress in our local theatre. I haven't been able to see this show but this is what made me discover and read the original work by William Shakespare, which I hadn't heard of before.I strongly reccomend The Rape of Lucrece for those who love poetry, subtlety and a smart treatment of current issues.

The Rape of Lucrece Annotated eBook William Shakespeare Reviews
I always liked Shakespeare and this is just another work that has made me enjoy his work even more than when I was required to read it in high school.
Typical Shakespeare. Great to read old english.
Nicely formatted and an easy read. Shakespeare at his usual wittiness self. I recommend this read for sure.
George from New York
Great poen by the Greatest writer.
Clever, but not his best work. However, I still give 5 stars because it is free and worth reading regardless.
I purchased this specific text because it claims to be annotated. I figured this would help with reading the poem. It is NOT annotated. It gives a brief bio of Shakespeare's life, but that is it.
At first like all Shakespeare this work is difficult to understand. However the more I read of it I came to understand that This is a commentary on the pitfalls of desire
